Tattoos can be a form of self-expression or simply a fashion statement. But for many ex-offenders, their tattoos can signify a gang or life they no longer wish to associate with. It can carry social stigma and hinder reintegration into mainstream society.
SL Aesthetic Group is part of the tattoo removal service by the Singapore Prison Service (SPS), an initiative that offers free tattoo removal for inmates who have gone through SPS’ gang renunciation programme.
“Every tattoo we remove represents a step towards a fresh start, a chance for reintegration, and I’m proud to be a part of that process.”
– Dr Gabriel Wong, Medical Director
This initiative, supported by Alglow Aesthetics Pte Ltd, the distributor for Fotona Lasers, requires our doctors to conduct weekly prison visits. Depending on the size and colour of the tattoo, removal takes anywhere from 5-30 sessions.
By joining this programme, we hope to help ex-offenders remove the visible reminders of their past, reduce societal biases, enhancing their chances of successful reintegration. It recognises the potential for positive change and rehabilitation, emphasising the importance of second chances and the belief that individuals can overcome their past.
